Dragon Moon – April 17, 2026

i ching suzanne nosko taoist month ahead Apr 18, 2026

We hope our newsletter finds you well as we welcome the Water Dragon, the ruler for the month, which comes soaring in on April 17th. The Dragon marks pivot or transition points. They store energy, and the specific element combination can determine how that stored energy expresses. Dragon months tend to bring turning points, the release of stored pressure, the emergence of things hidden, and instability before a new phase.

This month is a Water Dragon month, but because Dragons are always intrinsically associated with the Earth element, this creates the particular combination of Water sitting on top of Earth. It’s like a reservoir of water contained within the Earth. The Water element represents thinking, strategy, adaptability, and perception.

So what happens with that stored energy we talked about that Dragons bring? Stored intelligence begins to move. This tends to bring spikes in conflict, exposure, or revelation. Hidden tensions that have accumulated suddenly erupt.

Now we take into account the year, the Fire Horse year, known as a double Fire year, a very rare occurrence (happens once every 60 years), which is marked by acceleration, volatility, and exposure, and tends to bring rapid movement and amplification of events. Put together with our month, we have strong Water meeting with Extreme Fire creating a steam effect. Energetically, things boil over—secrets surface. Water Dragon month inside Fire Horse year doesn’t actually calm things, but rather interrupts momentum and redirects it often before a next surge or sharper escalation.

Decisions made in this period tend to set the trajectory for the rest of the year. We’ve got high-speed fire energy being interrupted by a deep, pressurized intelligence. This produces either breakthroughs or blowups, revelations or crises, and strategic moves that trigger chain reactions. Neither calm nor stable, but decisive!

On the larger energetic scale, intelligence activity is occurring, but often as backchannels (hidden from view) or as surprise pivot points. Moves that appear impulsive but are actually calculated. Old problems resurface, unfinished business can reappear, or risks previously ignored reemerge.

In times like these, it’s good to remember not to react to what’s visible, but respond to what’s actually driving it underneath. Even though the Fire Horse emphasizes feelings of urgency, action, and escalation, don’t chase the flames or you’ll miss where the Fire is about to turn or what’s about to surface underneath (hidden)!
